Flowers on the Moon
Apr. 30th, 2007 07:05 pmThird post in as many days...having no internet for a while has clearly taken its toll ;).
Another recommendation, this time for original online fic. If anything, original fic has a harder time finding readers online, because fanfic has a built-in audience. So when a writer has been consistently awesome, I figure nudging other people her way never hurts.
Hitherby Dragons is hard to describe. It's a big, sprawling project made up of hundreds of loosely interlinked stories - some of them more closely linked than others, but all can be read on their own. I've only ever brushed the outskirts of it. Stories are bizarre, funny, and deeply philosophical in turn, and can involve everything from fairytales to pop culture icons twisted in strange and unsettling ways. One of my favourite ones (from which my icon quote comes) is The Domain of Reason, a homage and critique of B-grade sci-fi technobabble in the real world.
And then there are the ones like Flowers on the Moon, which are beautiful even as they rip your heart up and put it back in a new shape.
There are many more stories on her site. Go: read; explore; enjoy.
