Things that try to look like things
Feb. 3rd, 2009 11:56 pmWe get all sorts of books coming through to be processed - everything from crisp, sharp-edged texts published this year to leatherbound tomes which probably haven't been looked at, let alone borrowed, since they were acquired. Such are the joys of a university library. Occasionally there'll be a very pretty one (usually an old book), with ornamentation along the spine and marbled edges and end-papers.
So I was going along a trolley, and I looked down and saw an interesting, solid-looking book tucked between two taller ones. Very interesting marbling effect on the top edge.
"Hey, this book looks like a block of wood," I said.
As it turned out, there was a very good reason for that...
It totally *was* a block of wood.
( Pics or it didn't happen )
Since the library won't be needing notional books with the automated system, I got to keep it for the lulz. I don't know what I'll do with a block of wood labelled "Canada", but--
Mine now!
