Dresden Files on tv: a belated thumbs up
Dec. 7th, 2008 11:54 pmI just finished watching the twelve episodes of short-lived The Dresden Files tv series and dang were we robbed. Yet another show to add to the Gone Before Its Time board.
Like all tv shows adapted from other material, it took liberties with the books. But as an AU, it was highly entertaining. The one dip in enjoyment for me was Storm Front, which was originally shot as a pilot, then retooled into a late-season episode. They were obviously still finding their feet in the exposition and Harry's relationship with Murphy and the rest of the Chicago PD, and it showed. Viewed as an AU-of-an-AU it was bearable, but it didn't quite match the tone of the rest of the series.
Terrence Mann put in a fine performance as droll, sardonic Bob. And Paul Blackthorne does good bafflement, and good pain. Harry is confuzzled and beat up a lot, so that was important ;).
