Various Signs That Spring Is Sprung
Sep. 4th, 2007 07:20 pm1. Buds and flowers aplenty, from the glorious white mass of almond flowers to the sulky dripping sap from the recently-pruned grapevines. Bees go yay!
2. The Splendid Wren and his lady-fair are fluttering around the house, courageously defending their territory from the young upstart and brazen hussy in the windows. When my camera dock is working again, I'll post some photos of them. When the reflections are particularly impudent, the wrens get SO! ANGRY!, and the feathers on the top of their heads stick up like hedgehog hats. :)
3. The puppies tell me there's a shingleback in the grass, freshly emerged from hibernation/brumation. I thought I'd posted some photos from the last time I found a shingleback lizard in the home block, but evidently not. They're a chubby sort of lizard, a solid body and stubby little legs like a bluetongue, and their Cunning Escape Plan involves curling into a crescent and hoping you confuse their spadelike head for their spadelike tail. I put it outside the home block in the borage - it hissed unhappily the whole way.
Oh yes, and
4. Asparagus. Mmm, fresh asparagus spears.
Forget the thermometer, spring is definitely sprung.
