In amongst all the tributes to Steve Irwin tonight (a tragic yet terribly ironic death - I mean, stingray?!? I like stingrays!), I almost missed the passing of another. RIP Colin Thiele, author of Storm Boy.

In more positive news, I'm almost absolutely certain that Jayne's pained yelps this afternoon were because there were meat ants on his bone and they bit his nose, and not because of an invisible brown snake. After poor Fawn, I'm still keeping my fingers crossed for a few days.

Edited to add (six days later): Jayne is fine. Looks like it was the ants.
