Yea, verily did the prodigal return
Jun. 15th, 2006 11:39 pmWell, I'm back from Conflux, all convention-ed out but with some nice books and magazines and art prints memories and a somewhat lighter hip pocket. Canberra's infernal circles did fail to faze me, and the hotel lifts did not eat me. I count that as a win :).
Lessee now...random thoughts on the con:
All the writers and artists and editors are good folk. Some (especially David B Coe, Sean Williams and Stephen Dedman) convinced me through their sheer awesomeness to give their stuff a try.
The phone interviews with Lloyd Alexander, Arthur C Clarke and Ray Bradbury were pretty cool (except for Sir Arthur, who was curt in his answers and somewhat forgetful - seriously, I think he's going to die soon). Lloyd Alexander gets up atINSANE O'CLOCK!!! two or three every morning to write, which is just...well, insane. And dedicated. I mean, he's eighty-two.
The Dalek invasion shall be greeted with crowds looking to "capture the moment" on camera phone; small children will also play chicken with our extermination-happy overlords. (every lunch break, several Daleks came out into the National Museum's atrium toamuse terrorize the people)
I might do a more organised con report when I find my notes. Or not. Either way, an enjoyable convention, and I hope they have another one - if not next year (there seems to be some uncertainty), then the year after.
Now sleep...
