From [livejournal.com profile] mhalachaiswords, because I responded ;).

The Interesting Meme.

1. Pick one of the interests off your lj-userinfo page and post it in a comment.
2. Tell me why you have that interest listed.
3. Tell me a funny/cute/sweet/interesting anecdote about that interest.
4. Post this in your journal and share the love.

Though it would be nice to have someone explain what it all means. I mean, other than that I am clearly not Kevin Bacon.

...Maybe a little cartoon scientist in a lab coat and comically-large spectacles. With a pointing-stick, and slide presentation, and maybe little atomic models to demonstrate interconnections. Ooo, and Deleuze and Guattari action figures to talk about rhizomatic structures.

(I am now officially relegated to the geek corner, with all the other weirdos)

Anyway - mind-map!

ETA: the image was making weird stuff happen to my journal formatting, so: MINDMAP!

ETA 2: [livejournal.com profile] xwingace has kindly provided a link which sort of explains how the lj mindmap works.

News from Neil Gaiman's blog.

If you've ever wanted your name to appear in a novel, here's an opportunity. The First Amendment Project (which is a non-profit organisation "dedicated to protecting and promoting freedom of information, expression, and petition. For more than twelve years, FAP has provided advice, educational materials, and legal representation to its core constituency of activists, journalists, and artists in service of these fundamental liberties.") has arranged name-a-character auctions on eBay with the following authors:

September 1-10: Michael Chabon, Amy Tan, Peter Straub, Andrew Sean Greer, Karen Joy Fowler

September 8-18: Stephen King, Lemony Snicket, Dorothy Allison, Jonathan Lethem, Ayelet Waldman

September 15-25: John Grisham, Nora Roberts, Neil Gaiman, Dave Eggers, Rick Moody, ZZ Packer

Go here for details on what each author is specifically offering. Spread the word.

In other news, I'm finding it depressingly hard to get back into the flow of my thesis argument. Boo, hiss.
