*pops head up briefly over the parapet*
Jul. 21st, 2005 08:44 pmAm back from unexpected internet deprivation. Need to catch up on everything later, cos tomorrow I'm off to Melbourne to see various family members. But first, a few things...
No terrible spoilers for HBP - I know there's still people out there waiting to read it - so I'll try to be vague:
Better than the last one. I do not miss Harry's CAPSLOCK OF RAGE which so filled OotP - there's only so much teen wangst I'll put up with, so it was nice to see him control his outbursts. Harry is still a complete peagoose* when it comes to judging certain situations (viz Snape! The entire book I felt JKR being deliberately ambiguous, dammit! *narrows eyes* But I know her game...), but at least he's learning from most of his mistakes.
And there was one glorious moment of light during the grim finale when I realised who wrote the locket-note. Made me happy.
In other news, Obligatory Fangirl Squee over Neil Gaiman, who was in Sydney on Wednesday. He read an extract from upcoming novel Anansi Boys, which is a sort-of sequel to American Gods, only completely different.
(And having heard a bit more about what had been planned, I now want Terry Gilliam's probably-never-to-be-made Good Omens film more than ever. Stupid Hollywood studios.)
Didn't say anything deep, impressive, memorable, ironic, moronic, or otherwise embarrassing, because I was too busy being impressed by the extra flourishes he does for his 1602 signature.
Finally, arant note to my upstairs neighbours in Sydney:
Your baby is not wailing at two in the morning because s/he wants to annoy you. S/he is crying because s/he needs you. For the love of Mike, give the child some comfort, or I'll hoist myself over the balcony railings and do it myself.
*coughs, straightens tie, looks vaguely embarrassed*
We now return you to your regular life.

*I just finished reading Sorcery and Cecilia, or, The Enchanted Chocolate Pot, a wonderfully Austen-esque letters-novel by Patricia Wrede and Caroline Stevermer, and my speech is now peppered with phrases like "It's the outside of enough!" and "the odious Mister --".
