Ha. I just spent literally five minutes wondering where the other half of my mandarin went, and whether it had possibly rolled off my lap and under the furniture. Baffled sifting through mandarin peel in case I had somehow overlooked it, down on my knees peering under things...

(I ate it while I wasn't looking.)

(I think.)

Also, meme time! Reply to this meme by yelling "Words!" and I will give you five words that remind me of you. Then post them in your LJ and explain what they mean to you. [livejournal.com profile] active_apathy gave me cookery, Guildenstern, writing, librarianism, and blues.

Cookery
I like to cook! Food is delicious! Pretty much nothing can beat a homemade bolognaise (which can lead to homemade lasagne), risotto, stir-fry, pizza, icecream, muffins, brownies, glögg... it's all about having a solid base of cooking skills (the kitchen alchemy that lets you look at a recipe and go, "yeah, I can see how that goes together; sounds good!") and working on core recipes. I'm with Robert Rodriguez on this - you've got to eat for the rest of your life, so you might as well eat well. Also, home cooking means you know what goes into your meals, and can control the quality of the ingredients.

Guildenstern
Doesn't look quite right all by himself. Somebody's missing - but who?

Rosencrantz and Guildenstern Are Dead is one of my favourite plays, and also a delightfully meta-Shakespeare movie with Tim Roth and Gary Oldman. (Um. Delightful in a warped way. Please don't get the wrong impression.) Guildenstern is the more cynical one. But not cynical enough to stop losing his money testing the laws of probability on the flip of a coin.

"Consider: One, probability is a facter which operates within natural forces. Two, probability is not operating as a factor. Three, we are now held within un-, sub- or super-natural forces. Discuss."

Writing
Is something I do (and should do more). The fantasy genre is what's closest to my heart (getting to mash up ancient history, folklore, fairytales and urban legends? priceless), though science fiction was there first. And pulp/crime/noir is trying to muscle in on the territory. Good thing it plays nice with the other two :).

Librarianism
Ook.
(I'm not such a stickler for "quiet in the library", though. And I probably won't tear your arms off and beat you to death with them if you call me a monkey. Probably.)

Blues
As they say in modern music, the blues are the roots, the rest is the fruit. I'm more a fan of Delta blues than Chicago blues - but by no means *only* the Delta blues. The Australian Blues Festival held in Goulburn each year has brought many different artists and styles to my attention (check the blues festival tag).
